In March, Genetics Department community members participated in Experience UGA, a partnership between the Clarke County School District and UGA. This program enables every CCSD student to attend a curriculum-based, grade-level field trip to UGA each year toward the goal of fostering excitement for higher education. By the time students graduate from CCSD, they would have experienced 14 different UGA field trips. Each year, the ninth-grade trip has a focus on science-based careers and highlights initial steps high school students should be taking when considering higher education. Folks from several Genetics labs participated with one Table focused on strawberry DNA extractions and one table on model organisms (monkeyflowers, fish embryos, maize, etc).
